The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative and it is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. We were awarded our first Active School Flag in 2015 and we were delighted and proud to renew it last June. While we fly our flag with great pride, we are very conscious that the AS initiative is an ongoing process and our challenge now is to continue raising awareness of the importance and benefits of physical activity as an integral part of daily life.
The flag is a whole-school initiative so parental involvement is essential. Our Active School team is comprised of pupils, parents and staff, and we also have a bank of parent volunteers to call on for help with various activities on an ongoing basis. We appreciate that not every parent is available to help ‘on the ground’ but we encourage you to support this important initiative by encouraging your son to be as active as possible both in and out of school.
Our Active School slogan is: More kids, more active, more often.
Ideas for new activities to complement our Active School Flag initiative are very welcome. Please submit your suggestions via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
