Physical Education (P.E.)

PEThe P.E. curriculum provides children with learning opportunities through the medium of movement and contributes to their overall development by helping them to lead full, active and healthy lives. There are six strands in the P.E. curriculum-

• Athletics

• Dance

• Gymnastics

• Games

• Outdoor and adventure activities

• Aquatics

Teachers cover each of the above six strands over the school year. In the case of aquatics, Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st classes cover the ‘Land PAWS’ (Primary Aquatic Water Safety) programme which is classroom-based and focuses on water safety theory and land-based skills, while each of our 2nd classes get a block of swimming lessons in the CRC pool.

All classes get 2 X 30 minute slots in the school hall plus a minimum of 30 minutes on the astro-turf pitch every week. In addition, all classes get a 6-week block of yoga sessions with Karen Hazzard, a 6-week block of Irish dancing lessons with Rhona Lucas, a 10 week block of G.A.A. coaching with Ger Dinan, and each of the 1st classes have a 10-week block of tennis lessons.
