Arts Day

The 2012 Arts day took place on last Tuesday May 29th. Mrs. Rowan has been busy for the past few months organising the day. THis is no mean feat of organisation and requires ordering materials such as clay, booking acts, liaising with teachers who take after-school groups and this year liaising with our neighbours the Senior Boys’ School.

The day began with the infants doing ceramic workshops and giving expression to the themes which were suggested to Niamh Flanagan during her print sessions- there were aliens, pirates and outer space themes and sleep was disturbed for some of us by the truly frightening creatures which emerged!

All the while, there were faces being painted in Room 7 with any number of fearsome masks by the mothers who came in to help. 

While the infants were engaged in their clay work, the boys from 1st  & 2nd classes were entertained by our circus acts in the hall.

Straight after break,  we were entertained by a variety of ensemble and solo pieces including

  • Ms. Conry and her hip-hop troupe
  • Mr. Garett Byrne and his guitarists- rarely has ‘Stairway to Heaven’ being played so well!
  • Mr. Harvey and his recorder boys.
  • Ms. Eibhilín & Ms. RoisIn McCaughey and their speech and drama groups drawn from all 4 year groups
  • Daniel Duggan solo

To Ms. Michelle O’ Grady’s accompaniment, we all sang a Belgrove favourite ‘I’ve been eaten by a boa constrictor’. Ms. O’ Grady’s boys and friends then performed dynamite before we were gate-crashed by two returning sons on Lucan who took the wrong turn when returning after their Eurovision performance- the caped duo performed ‘Put a green cape on’ and made themselves up to look like the cousins in Mrs. Rowan’s class- Shane Clarke & Conor Dunlea.

THe afternoon programme saw the ceramic artists work with the older boys while the infants were entertained by a very popular juggling act.

Final verdict on our Arts day goes to a Senior Infant boy who told his teacher ” this really is the best school!”

Well done to Gabrielle Rowan for organising the acts and to all teachres who prepared items for the concert, organised boys for face-painting, took photographs and helped in any way big or small.

A very special míle buiochas to the parents who patiently painted so many faces and arms!
