Today is Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of Lent. Fr. Pat McManus will bring askes to us at about 12 O’ Clock and we will put ashes on the foreheads of each boy. We will be sending a Trócaire boxe to each home and the season is a good opportunity to reflect on the whole concept of equality. Last week, we had a very successful visit from the Diocesan Religion Advisor.
On a not unrelated topic……. teachers have reported some slippage in the Healthy Lunch Policy. One small treat on Friday only is what we advocate under the Policy. One could have a long tortuous discussion about whether a home-made bun or queen-cake constitutes a treat…. and if not, then what is wrong with a shop-bought muffin?
A common-sense approach where Parents adhere to the spirit as well as the letter of the Policy is what we would welcome.
