Blian úr.

In the canúint or dialect of the Donegal Gaeltacht, the word for new is úr, which would have a generic meaning ‘fresh’. I think it is a great way to look at a new year- fresh, laden with opportunities and challenges and a chance to let the past behind us, especially if it was not an especially good 2012. Of course we will never forget those close to us who have passed on, but our concerns immediately are with the living and more particularly friends we know who have upcoming challenges to their health either physical or emotional.

On that, Brian & Jackie Geraghty, parents of young Rory have asked me to thank each and every one of you for your generous support of Our Lady’s Hospital Crumlin during the recent Christmas themed day. Over €700 was raised and this will help the hospital as they continue their great work with Rory and all the other children in their care.

Our collection for the St. Vincent de Paul/2FM toy appeal raised over  €2,500 and all here would wish to thank our parents for their generosity with this collection also- the community spirit or meitheal, where everyone rallies round to help is very much in evidence in our school community.
