BoM and PA AGMs – November 2011

The Parents Association AGM was held in the School Hall at 7pm on the 8th Nov. 2011 and preceded the Board of Management AGM. PA Activities for the Academic Year 2010/2011 were outlined.

Highlights for the academic year 2010/2011 were the redevelopment of the school website, reinstating the Annual ‘Parent Evening’ Talk and the production of a top quality DVD of the Christmas Concert which raised funds directly for the school. All activities were executed by the benevolence and expertise of parents within the school. Plans for 2011/2012 will follow a similar format.

One additional event in the calendar for 2011/2012 was the Junior Infants Family Runabout which was intended to provide what the yard had typically provided to the parents of Junior Infants in the first weeks of school but had been sacrificed to the New Build! This event proved to be a great success and will continue even when the yard is back in Sep/Oct 2012!

For the moment, fund raising activities for the year will continue in line with previous years with the Annual Table Quiz planned for Q1, 2012. All volunteers welcome to join the Quiz committee which will start its work just before Christmas under the capable chair of Olga McCarrick.

Kevin Hoy, Chairperson of the Board of Management outlined the main objectives of the previous BoM’s term and the challenges for the next term. Key considerations for the next term of the School’s Board of Management are likely to be balancing the needs of each child in the school versus the challenges of funding reductions.

As the term of the current Board of Management has expired and vacancies existed for the position of Parents Representatives, both Father and Mother. Mel Ferguson was nominated and seconded for the position of Fathers’ Representative. Grainne Power was nominated and seconded for the position of Mothers’ Representative. Both candidates were elected unopposed and will take up their positions before the end of Nov 2011.

The Parents Association expressed a special word of thanks to Ciaran Doran and Laura Broy, Parents  Reps. for the previous term and also to Brian Curtis and Father Cormac McIlraith who leave the Board after many years of service.
