Christmas concerts

For the last few weeks- several weeks!- the Staff have been working very hard putting the boys through their paces for the Christmas concerts. The tradition of the School staging concerts such as these goes back to Mr. Conway’s time and I dare say even before that. Before I started here as Principal, I was made very aware that these concerts were a feature which distinguished St. John the Baptist Junior Boys’ School.

Once more the boys and their teachers and SNAs have produced four very enjoyable Christmas items. Last-minute issues have been ironed out at the ‘previews’ staged for the Senior Boys’ and Girls’ Schools. To extrapolate from the adage that England’s battles were won on the playing fields of Eton, there are skills- valuable life skills- which are aquired and honed by participating in concerts such as these-

  • teamwork
  • sense of common purpose
  • postponed gratification
  • visual memory training
  • auditory memory training- learning your lines!
  • concentration
  • listening for others
  • taking direction
  • ensemble singing
  • standing still!!!!!

I know that when you seee the shows tomorrow, you will be very proud of each boy on the stage
