Moving In to New Block on October 28th

We are approaching the date for the move-in to our classrooms in the new block and are on track to move 10 of our classes in on Friday 28thof October, the day of the Hallowe’en break. As our Hall is being used by the Senior Boys’ School on that day, we have secured the use of the Girls’ School Hall for our Hallowe’en assembly. We are very grateful for their support as it will help us to move in safely.

Hallowe’en assembly will begin at 11 am. Infants will begin to leave classes at10:45 followed by 1st & 2nds at 10:50.

This affords us an opportunity to execute the decanting and movement of the classroom equipment and furniture into their base in the new block.

Classrooms have been assigned to the teachers who are moving. Mrs. Duffy and Mrs. Breen are not moving classes just yet. There are 5 classrooms in the first floor and 5 on the ground floor of the new block. 1st and 2nd classes will occupy the first floor while junior and senior infants will occupy 4 of the ground floor rooms and Ms. Michelle O’ Grady will also occupy a ground floor classroom.

Here are the new room assignments-

Ground floor

  • Mrs. Fannings senior infant class moves to Room 1 in the new block
  • Ms. McCaughey’s junior infant class moves to Room 2 in the new block
  • Miss Michelle O’ Grady’s 2nd class moves to Room 3 in the new block
  • Miss Woods’ junior infant class moves to Room 4 in the new block
  • Mrs. Rowan’s senior infant class moves to Room 5 in the new block

First floor

  • Miss Coade’s first class moves to Room 6 in the new block
  • Mr. Harvey’s 2nd class moves to Room 7 in the new block
  • Ms. Bolger’s 2nd class moves to Room 8 in the new block
  • Ms. Sórcha O’ Grady’s first class moves to Room 9 in the new block
  • Ms. O’ Donoghue’s first class moves to Room 10 in the new block
  • The rooms will be clearly marked with the teachers’ names prior to move-in.

We are seeking as many parents as possible to be available from 10:30 to 1:30. We will have dollies etc. so strength is not an issue.

Phasing:

All parent helpers should assemble outside Principal’s Office c. 10:40 for a briefing and in order to find out which moving team they are on. Please remember that our focus on the 28th is on moving in the classes- we will have an open evening for parents early in November during which parents will be given an extended opportunity to walk through, examine (and we hope admire!) the new school block.

Dollies will be available for heavier items to avoid marking or scoring the corridor surface with damaged/sharp castors.

Rooms 1, 2, 3, 7, 11

  • Ms. McCaughey, Ms. Woods, Mrs. Rowan, Ms. Coade & Ms. O’ Grady will go to their classrooms in the new block at c. 10:50 and direct positioning of furniture which will be brought to their rooms by parents in assigned teams.
  • Parents will have left the boys’ chairs in situ so that boys can bring them safely and under the supervision of staff to their new rooms upon return from Girls’ School. Moving into one’s new school is an historic occasion and as a staff we would wish the boys to feel fully participative in the moving process. In the interests of safety, we will move classes with chairs in order. Only chairs should be left- all other furniture/equipment should be removed

Rooms 10, 12 & 9

  • C. 12:00- Room 12 is moved to new location, followed by room 10 and Room 9.
  • Room 9, 10 & 12 boys may bring their own chairs to their new rooms as soon as all other furniture has been moved by parents.
